Amphipolis : a new hope

The tomb of Amphipolis is without a doubt the biggest one yet to be discovered in Greece.
What we know for sure is that at some time near the death of Alexander a massive tomb structure was crafted and erected at the ancient city of Amphipolis.
Two big questions arise.Who had the money and the power to undertake such a big and ambitious project and second why there, in the first place.
Alexander established the first multicultural empire. His goal was not only to conquer new lands but to solve an ancient conflict between east and west culture by merging the two together.Creating this early globalization, a new world order would arise in which east and west should live in peace, putting behind the epic battles between the Greeks themselves but also and most importantly with the Persians.
Following  the death of Alexander instructions were given to Craterus to carry out his last wishes.Among other things he was to build great temples at Delphoi,Dion,Dononi,Delos and Amphipolis. But why would he include this city among the other sacred cities of ancient Greece and give most of all so much importance?
Amphipolis was to become the new hub for the Macedonian kingdom, which would link nothern Greece mostly by sea but also by land to the expanded empire. As Alexandria was for Egypt,Amphipolis would become for Macedonia.Never the less Amphipolis was also the central economic bank of the time ,so it holded a valuable stategic position.

Craterus brought upon the macedonian council these last wishes of Alexander which were all rejected for vanity and cost.
We would also like to point out that as the Macedonians were concerned, Alexander had built up a negative momentum due to his marriages and adoption of several Persian customs, from his point of view clearly for political reasons.Never the less many like Antipater, his son Cassander and the Macedonian court feared and detested Alexander’s new lifestyle. It has been discussed among others that the same group of people were responsible for the death of Alexander,by poisoning,in fear for their own lifes.
The important thing is  that with the death of Alexander his grand designs were quickly dismissed and the battle of the diadochi begun.
But in a society where a war hero,a king and for many a god like figure is assassinated essentially for grandeur and vanity, who would undertake such a big and costly construction only for himself or his family? And if Alexander was not assassinated who had the strength to go against the Macedonian court and counsel who were clearly against all this?
The only one who had the interest, will and power to do so seems to be Alexander himself.Maybe also Olympias his mother, but she was already in great conflict with Antipater, ruler of Macedonia in the absence of Alexander so it seems highly improbable.
We know from the official archaeological team that is conducting the excavation right now at Amphipolis that the architect of the tomb is Dinocrates. He was Alexander’s technical advisor, known for his plan for the city of Alexandria, the monumental funeral pyre for Hephaestion and the reconstruction of the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, as well as other works.
Who had the ability(economic and political) to commission such an architect at a time following Alexander’s death, only to exceed in grandeur the tomb of Alexander’s father in Aiges, having the biggest tomb in Greece?
We agree with professor Theodoros Mavrogiannis that Alexander himself commissioned this great tomb for his friend Hephaestion. After the death of Alexander shortly after and the tomb not yet finished, we believe that it was converted to house only for a brief period of time the remains of Alexander, returning from Babylon as long as the diadochi could find a solution to the void in the command of the empire and a proper tomb for Alexander would be constructed at Aiges.
Alexander commanded that he was to be buried in the oasis of Siwa, near the temple of Ammon Ra.This also troubled the Macedonians as they saw their king becoming a foreigner and demanded that the remains should be shipped in Greece. And so it was, remarkably two years after the death of Alexander. But on the way to Macedonia and with the war of the diadochi in full scale, upon reaching Egypt.Ptolemy steals the body of Alexander and buries it temporarily at Memphis( as was to be buried temporarily at Amphipolis).

When the proper mausoleum for Alexander was constructed in Alexandria his remains were transferred there.Meanwhile at Amphipolis a huge cenotaph for Alexander remained. It was then reserved for his royal family (his son Alexander the 4th,his wife Roxanne and maybe his mother Olympias) all of them were feard and exiled from central Macedonia (ruled by Cassander).
Most probably none of them were buried at Amphipolis and if the remains of Hephaestion were repatriated there is unknown.
Feared that the cenotaph will be used as a burial site for Olympias,or a cult for Alexander we believe that in the spirit of the times it was vandalized. With the site empty and out of use,it was left at the forces of ignorance and nature.
What we believe happened some centuries after is the following. When troubled times hit Alexandria of Egypt with new powers and religions storming through the city mostly destroying everything resembling the old gods and times the priesthood of Alexandria feared for the tomb of Alexander which also in that time was adored.
It was then decided in complete secrecy to transfer Alexanders remains to avoid total destruction. So where should it go?

The safest place of course would be Amphipolis.Alexander’s body or remains could easily and secretly been transferred by sea in mainland Greece. There lied a tomb fit for a king ,long forgotten.
Alexander’s remains and many other secrets were transferred at Amphipolis. The site was sealed and buried in a way only encountered in egyptian tombs, which strengthens our thesis. With the whole site buried under tons of sand   ( impossible to dig) the tomb became impregnable. And remember that the tomb was designed by a great architect Dinocrates so many surprises are wet to come as nothing as simple as it may seems.
This is just an hypothesis based on the historical evidence that we have until now.Feel free to comment and share.

Amphipolis : New evidence

We have discovered some new and very intriguing evidence about the Amphipolis excavation.
On the original photos released by the ministry of Greek culture (currently the only source of information about the excavation) we noticed that there is some writing in ancient Greek in one of the caryatids (zoom in to see)

To our knowledge there is no official reference about this.Maybe they are also trying to decipher the text.We are providing you with the photo but also the original link to download the photos in high quality.
If you are an expert on ancient texts please let us know. The only hint we can give is that is related to the goddess Demeter. Feel free to comment and share.

Amphipolis a ''Great'' mystery

A lot of buzz is lately risen about a gigantic tomb found in the northern Greece,at the ancient town of Amphipolis. The real mystery is not that it is one of the largest tombs ever found but that actually no one has ever mentioned it in all of the ancient sources.
The mystery deepens as the archeologist proceeding with the excavation found out that at some point (during construction or afterwards) the tomb’s entrance and chambers were sealed off  not only with three consecutive stone walls (two vertical and one horizontal) but also filled in with sand.
Just to throw in some numbers the diameter of the tomb is 158.4 meters and the circumference 497, all dressed up with high quality marble from the greek island of Thasos.
Great mystical statues were discovered including sphinxes and caryatids alongside with a huge mosaic depicting the take of Persephone from Hades.

After only 25 meters of excavation the archeologists hit a dead end as the third and last chamber that was found was empty but also poor in relation with the others ,decorated with mosaics, great statues and colors. Then after they discovered a false floor with a central  shaft, also filled with sand but mysteriously also with debris like the  head and wings of the sphinxes of the first chamber and a one and a half ton of marble door that originally separated the second and third chamber.

So let’s put everything in perspective.
Amphipolis in ancient times was not an insignificant place far from it.It was something like the central bank of ancient Greece.Fifty city states ,that is all of the city states that produced coins, had an establisment there, taking advantage of the rich deposit of Mount Paggaion (Παν-γαιαι litteraly all minerals) to extract copper, silver but most importantly gold to make coins at the on site mints.
It was a place mentioned many times in ancient texts and a crucial point φορ several battles in the past both in Greek and Roman times. The strange thing is that this tomb was already there from the time of the Macedonian dominance over Thrace but no one ever described it or even mentioned it.
We do not know the reason therefor we can only speculate that at some point around 320 B.C.a huge construction took place in Amphipolis to construct a man made mountain all surrounded with marble and with a giant statue of a lion on top,the Lion of amphipolis ,still remaining near by.
Maybe at some point the site was destroyed (by man or nature),looted or even vandalized. That  is the archaeological facts that we have right now.
The strange thing is that most probably later the tomb was sealed off and buried in sand a practice that is most uncommon in Greece and more resembling an Egyptian style.Who,when and most importantly why did all this is yet to be answered by the archeological excavation .We can only research and we will present you with some interesting clues in the upcoming posts.Feel free to comment and share.

Mystical knowledge

Ancient Greeks believed that the whole universe had a seven layer structure and man, being part of that universe,  had seven layers too. They had a complete theory according to which, man and everything else around him was determined by two key features ,their matter and the energy that organizes all atoms (Democritus being the first scientist who introduced the idea of an atom) in a certain form or shape.By so the first layer of man is called physical body.

Inside this body we can find heat, electricity.magnetism, muscle power and so on that with an every day word we call life. The second layer-body is the energy layer.Physical body is similar in nature to minerals and the energy body is similar to plants.

But man ,among the animals has the gift to accelerate or decelerate all of his biological systems due to invisible emotional factors like fear, love, sadness and so on.This defines the third layer ,the emotional or astral body.

Above all three though we can find the mental layer, exclusive to man ,that allows him to coordinate all the other layers,to work in an invisible world of ideas an develop a unique self.

But there is another layer above the mental, made of pure perfect ideas representing the expression or the real self.It requires a great philosophical, inner culture .

Moving upwards we can find the sixth layer, that of intuition. Here are the greatest human ideals in inconceivable divine concepts.

The highest level is the the divine spirit. The three upper layers complete the highest, divine trinity.

About Democracy

What exactly is Democracy? A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. The very word Democracy originates from the Greek word δημοκρατία "rule of the people",which was coined from δῆμος "people" and κράτος, "power" or "rule" in the 5th century BCE in Athens , to indicate a form of liberal and direct political system, in which every  free citizen was obliged to participate an vote in the city council on every matter concerning the public affairs.

Some say that this is not actually a democracy as for the fact that only the free and rich could take the above decisions and the poor was used as slaves, deprived of every political right. This is actually a matter of a grater debate as if we consider our modern term of democracy we will find some shocking resemblances to the ancient world. The declaration of Independence and the birth of the ideally democratic and liberal state, the united states, was written and founded on slavery but this should be a totally different subject.

The thing is that we all should pause momentarily this frenetic capitalistic consumerism and realize what exactly we have sacrificed in the altar of the so called free market. What is the democracy we actually live in today?

The only aspect of the democratic system that we will actually experience is the right to vote a certain representative. Other than that,we have no real part in every what so ever decision making. And who do we vote? Our right to choose in only between the aristocracy, career politicians with multi million portfolios.Does actually somebody know how much money it's required for someone to candidate in the presidential election? And if someone outside the system is elected? The solution is very simple,he becomes part of it,he is consumed and nothing changes.

What is the problem with all this rotten political status?Capitalism is alimented, and capitalism brings huge growth and wealth ,so it's actually a good thing but not for us.It is a global scam to render every free human being into an economic slave,as the ones in ancient Greece. And the funny thing is that as then, also now the system promises you your freedom.Work hard and maybe you will be one of us, free ,rich and a decision maker. So if we all are working so hard to be like this, what are we exactly now ?

And bringing wealth to international corporations is one thing ,melting every social ,political and ethical value of modern western states is an other.

Italy, one of the pillars of European economy has no had an elected government in years.Actually there have been three different prime ministers, with their own people who took over every decision making on behave of the Italian people without ever been elected by no one.Is this democracy?

Greece has been the playground for the economic elite on how much a nation can economically suffer and the experiment is still going on, trying to find the breaking point. All Greeks chose to suffer? It actually strikes me as a democratic paradox.

The their is the war for democracy, invading foreign countries ,killing and installing the same non-democracy only to amplify profits, which is ridiculous.

So if we really could open our eyes ,see and understand what is really happening in front of us, we would be appalled, because their is no ethical system throughout the world that could support this pseudo-moralized non democracy. We have a world wide political system that must be revisited or it will collapse on it self.

The created evolution of the soul

Creation or evolution? It is indeed a very popular debate nowadays that rarely finds a satisfying answer. That is because both theories address the same matter but with a different prospective thus confronting them is very difficult.
Christians and all other followers of the Judaic based religions point to a superb creator of the universe, who in his own image created man. Atheists and evolutionists point to science as the only logical force able to explain our evolutionary existence in this pale blue dot,all alone for now in the universe.Let's assume that they are both right. It's only a matter of perspective.
This debate goes a little further and is actually a result of a cultural schizophrenia of the western world. Our way of thinking,of interpreting reality is based on the Hellenic (ancient Greek) system of thought but our spiritual and theological belief  is based on the Jewish system. Is one better from the other? One can argue but probably not, they are just different. So we selectively inherited all of the Greek way of thinking discarding only their theological belief system which was updated with the new religion of Christianity. So what happened?
The short story is a global collision of interest. Christianity begun as a dogmatic revolt to the strict and powerful Jewish religion, attempting the fulfillment of an ancient Egyptian prophecy, the return of the Messiah .But what actually happened was the first global ethical revolution.First Christian fathers attempted a merge between Judaism and all other major religion that dominated at the time, only to deliver a powerful message of equity and individual freedom. So in the first two or three hundred years history is marked with revolts of people demanding their freedom, revolts drenched in blood by the Roman legion. When the entire empire faced a total collapse fearing the first true ''French revolution'' this new religion took on an new form and became Christianity as we now it today, the first mass based religion.
We must only focus to the origin of the cultural schizophrenia. You have to bear in mind that the Greek world was a lot more advanced that what we actually commonly think. It was in the Roman times with the human sacrifices in the Colosseum and the arenas, with the prisoners of war and the campaigns that gave us the picture that we hold today about slavery and individual rights in those societies. But the truth is that in the Greek world, who's system of thought we use, it was no more different that the world we live today. You and I are slaves and our dreams and hopes is to gain our freedom only by beating the capitalistic economic system,so that we won't have to work again.Few among us are Aristocrats ,who we call rich and have the luxury of being in a superior social position. Imagine if someone today spread the message that all the wealth must be redistributed and that the rich ,who have more shall give to the poor so that everyone is equal.Such a system rised and failed and is called communism, but this is an entirely different story. So in a theological prospective we have a belief system constructed under extreme circumstances, departing from Judaism and twisted in a way to sue a political power.
Is Christianity wrong? The answer is no.It carries a powerful and true message of love and a codex of strict and moral ethics .What we must understand is the origin of thought. In early days everything begun as religion. The earth and the moon, the Sun and the stars all were deities.Eventually the Greeks begun to separate the cause from the result creating science. So for example you had the myths, were facts and religion were merged together but at one time they were separated creating history. We in the western world kept up this way of thinking creating an advanced scientific and technological society. Theologically we took another path and adopted a religion different from our way of thinking, which results in an extreme difficulty to address questions which merge science and religion such as evolution or creationism.
Nevertheless in ancient times and through thousands of years of theological evolution ,religion was pretty much imposed the way it is nowadays. You had a mass based religion,a simplified version that everyone could understand and a deeper, secret one to which only the mentally matured were initiated.Back then it were the Thracian,Kabeirian or Eleysinian mysteries that took men and women away from the mainstream religion to show them the true meaning of things, the meaning of life.During Christianity there were and are many more secret societies who do the same,Opus Dei,The Priory of Sion, the Knights Templar or even the Freemasons are some few examples.
Let us then go back to the source of our way of thinking and see the matter in a different way.Is man created or is it just a mere coincidence of a naturally controlled process? The answer is both, because for the Greeks the one god was everywhere,it was nature itself. The polytheistic system, which later was branded as the twelve Olympic god system was a segmentation of the major virtues of the divine, found in nature as a divine product. The creators of science were not atheists,on the contrary the most excellent scientist were denominated priests. If man is a part of nature, thus a part of the divine, it evolves with it as we know that nature evolves. The goal of science is to explain,in our way of understanding how and why everything works within this divine nature .And the answer is as simple as this.

The Greek Tragedy

It is indeed sad to see,in our days and in the western world, an entire nation suffer. Are the Greeks these lazy and incompetent people that everyone is promptly and proudly depicting? How is it possible that something like this occurred inside a huge economic mechanism of stability with the name Europe?Nobody knew?
Let's start with the first simple observation that the modern democratic system has a huge flaw. There is no direct democracy. We elect representatives, who in our behalf make the ''right'' choices for the whole nation. So it's our fault if we elect the wicked and corrupted ,the least capable to govern and decide on our behalf, thus supporting the kakistocracy. We obviously take everything they say for granted but what happens if they lie?If the lie to the nation , presenting an image  that everything is going great but eventually lying also to their economic partners about the state of the economy. The Greek people for example had no means to check on the ability and transparency of the ministry of economy because the government always said that everything is going as planned. On the other hand the European committee and all these ''great'' people that we see these days flying from Brussels, demanding and controlling the state of the Greek and Italian economy should have done their job, that is controlling the validity of the economic stats presented in the previous years from these governments, all along but they did not. Mysteriously no one noticed, and in a matter of weeks we had the fall of all the southern European economy with Greece as its scapegoat.
It is actually funny if you notice that Greece has no heavy industry. It is a nation that from it's remote origins to this day remained true to it's root traditions.Originally Greek religion was based in nature and the expression of the divine in every little aspect of it.Thus Greece chose not to have a heavy industry and apart from it's horrible urban centers remained a naturalistic and ecologic country. It's economy was based in culture, tourism and  well being ,shipping and agriculture. But in the days we all are living in, their is no space for a country like this, living off it's culture and well being, tourism and what genuinely the earth is producing thus this is the age of the ruthless economic capitalism, derivates and technocrats where every soul is a statistic,a potential buyer of mass producing goods, service and money producing machines. Nothing else matters than money and in the altar of greed everything is sacrificed.
So the world has changed but the Greeks remained the same.Is it their fault for the growing debt they inherited?Of course not because they did not ask and certainly they did no receive all this money. So where did it go?
A third of the annual income of Greece went each year to the war industry.Greece is a peace loving country and all of this equipment go to the protection of the southeast part of Europe, from non modern e non western countries. Basically a myth to sustain the foreign war industry thus Greece has non of it's own, but most importantly imports all this war equipment as a mean for protection of it's national sovereignty in the Greek region.A fourth goes to the oil industry as Greece imports all of it's oil and natural resources.Does Greece lacks it's own natural resources?Of course not,Greece is very rich in oil, natural gas, gold, uranium and other precious metals. It is absurdly prohibiten from the international oil industry and not only to Greece to use it's own resources. It has to buy theirs. An other fourth went usually missing from the kakistocracy, where being a politician became a profitable business and what was left went to the Greek people as salaries and pensions, one of the lowest in not the lowest in the whole Euro-zone.
This truly a strange world we are living in, where everyone is your friend and ally but what really matters is money. The Greeks are now living a nightmare. The international system put the Greek economy to it's knees and we are assisting for almost two years the speculation and destruction of a whole nation,of course for money.Someone invested in Greek bonds, someone else became rich selling oil and guns to a country that does not need it,an other one became rich by executing all this non logic demands, everyone knew and no one cared. Are we so crooked as a global society, are we criminals guided by an economic mafia that we are ready to destroy a whole nation because our investment went bad?Give me my money!
I feel for the Greeks as they have been scammed. The greater disaster would be in they decide to leave from the Eurogroup, because Greeks are righteous but also reluctant to change. The world has changed so the Greeks must change also.I would love to see a new Greece, with a modern and true democracy because i know that the Greeks did so much and are capable of much more and truly an asset for the European community.
On the other hand just remember that a country so important as Greece, where all western culture and European principles are based cannot stay in an Economic Union that has so much pressure on it as to drive a hole nation to starvation for a crime that did not commit.
I sincerely hope that the Greek political parties understand the importance of Greece's permanence to the Euro-zone but most importantly that the Greeks understand that it is time to change and fight back not by destroying with riots half of the country but by building a solid and prosperous economy, defending their country.
Nevertheless please remember what Greek culture stands for,do not annihilate everything for profit thus certain things have a value that define our existence.Let Greece use it's natural resources, grow without the fear of aggression and invasion ,let it maintain it's significant cultural value and allow it to grow.
In the end a Greek tragedy always starts with an hubris but it ends with catharsis and as a sign of a mature and cultured western society let's just hope that this is the case.
